Empowered Parenting

COLORADO

The National Youth Advocate Program’s (NYAP) Empowered Parenting services are rooted in our deep abiding belief that children and youth are the most successful when they are able to safely remain with their families, within the communities they call home. Empowered Parenting supports parents and caregivers in strengthening the skills and strategies needed to build stable, nurturing family environments.

We serve parents and caregivers of all ages who are at risk of involvement, or currently involved, in child-serving systems, as well as those who have identified a desire to strengthen their parenting skills. Through collaborative coaching and guidance, NYAP works alongside those we serve to promote safety, strengthen parent-child relationships, and build the confidence needed to sustain positive parenting practices.

Empowered Parenting Goals

Empowered Parenting is designed to strengthen the stability and safety of the home by enhancing the skills of parents and caregivers. While the service can function as a standalone parent education program, it is often provided alongside Supervised Family Time services. We support families by:

  • Strengthening parents’ ability to safely care for and maintain their children in the home

  • Supporting reunification efforts between children and their primary families

  • Building effective parenting and communication skills

  • Helping parents navigate the needs of children and youth with behavioral, developmental, or medical challenges

  • Providing additional support for teenage or first-time parents

  • Assisting families in successfully completing family service or case plans

Average Length of Services

Services are typically provided for four months, though the length may vary based on the assessed needs of each parent or caregiver.
