Florida Qualifications
- Must be over 21 years of age.
- Letters of reference from family, employer, neighbors, schools your children attend.
- Physical exam by your own doctor.
- Complete 30 hour Model Approach to Partnerships in Parenting (MAPP). Enhanced foster parents must also complete an additional 30 hours of training.
- Background checks will be completed on every person over age 12 in the home.
- Letters of reference from family, employer, neighbors, schools your children attend.
- Lead child welfare agency in Broward County, Childnet, must approve your license and the Department of Children and Families must sign off on your license.
Qualified foster parents are also:
- Single, married, same-sex couples of any race or religion.
- In good physical and mental health.
- Able to demonstrate financial security.
- Able to clear a background study and provide positive references.
- Willing to complete a home study to ensure a healthy environment.
- Willing to participate in training before fostering and during the time as a foster parent. Training is provided at no cost.
