We are actively looking for individuals who are open to sharing their parenting skills, life experiences and open communication skills with parents and families who need their support and guidance.  People who choose to mentor parents make a difference in the lives of the people they help and in their communities.

Parent Advocate Connections is a volunteer program by the National Youth Advocate Program to bring together mentors with parents that are involved in the child welfare system. Mentors provide guidance and support, possibly during crisis situations, assist with day-to-day activities like escorting parents to appointments, connecting parents with community resources, helping parents improve parenting and life skills and creating a more stable environment at home.

**Currently, this program is only available in Columbus Ohio**

NYAP mentors will receive:

  • Training before they are introduced to a family or parent and ongoing support
  • An opportunity to contribute to the success and strengthening of the community
  • Personal fulfillment through helping a family in need
  • Tax-free reimbursement paid once a month to help cover program related expenses

NYAP mentors are required to:

  • Successfully complete a federal and state background and reference check
  • Be a mature adult
  • Communicate openly and without judgment of the parents and youth being mentored
  • Have tolerance and respect for individual differences, opinions and perspectives
  • Have access to transportation. If personal transportation is used, mentor must provide valid driver’s license and automobile insurance with a minimum of $100,000/300,000 coverage.
