FOSTER PARENTING
Thank you for your interest in becoming a NYAP foster parent. Foster parents enjoy many wonderful benefits. Not the least of which is the lifelong satisfaction of knowing they have had a lasting, positive impact on the life of a child, giving them the stability, love and self confidence necessary to succeed throughout their life.
Fostering is a challenging and engaging endeavor whose ultimate reward is the positive difference you’ve made in the lives of children and families. Additional benefits and supports provided to South Carolina Youth Advocate Program foster parents include:
- Tax free per diem reimbursement paid twice monthly
- Free certification and re-certification training
- 24-hour toll-free telephone assistance line
- Referral bonuses
It's not too hard to become a foster parent for South Carolina Youth Advocate Program, but it does take a commitment on your part to complete the licensing process.
You must be at least 21 years of age. You don't have to be rich, but you do need to be able to make ends meet without being dependent on the per diem you are paid.
You can be a foster parent whether you own or rent your home. It doesn't matter if you live in an apartment, mobile home, or a house. Your home just has to be safe. You can be single, married, widowed or divorced. You can be any race or religion.
You will have to go to training before and during your time as a foster parent and you will have to undergo background checks.
