The choice to foster a child, youth or sibling group is an important decision in the life of the foster parent and of the youth they foster. At NYAP, we take extra care to place the right kids into the right homes and for the right reasons. We believe that all kids are most successful when they live in a family setting and in the communities they call home until they can be reunited with their own family or with a relative. We work hard to provide you with the special training, resources and support necessary to meet the individual needs of the youth.

It’s normal for people to have a lot of questions about foster parenting like “How does the whole process work? What if I discover I’m not cut out for it? Will I have to take off work to take the classes?” We want you to ask questions so you are comfortable with making the important and generous choice to become a foster parent.
We’re here to answer any questions you may have and once you have made your decision, we’ll walk you through the process, step-by-step.
Foster Parents are people just like you.
You don’t need to live in a big house, you can be single or married, you don’t need to have kids of your own, you don’t need to have a lot of money and you don’t need a degree in social work. What we are looking for is someone with the desire to provide a safe, nurturing home to a youth who needs a helping hand.

We also provide professional support from an experienced and knowledgeable caseworker who knows you, the youth and the family of origin. Our offices are located in the communities we serve and our dedicated staff is there to support you and provide ongoing help whenever you need it.
