Being a foster parent is as chanllenging as it is rewarding.  We all need the encouragment, guidance and support of a parent or a mentor.  That one person in your life who will listen to what you have to say, understand where you have been and care about where you are going tomorrow.  Becoming a foster parent is just that.  It is taking that leap of faith, reaching out and stepping up to the challenge of helping youth until they can be reunited with their own family or a relative.  It is about being someone who will stand by them when the chips are down.  If this is who you are or who you want to be, becoming a NYAP foster parent may just what you are looking for.

One Family, One Community

Opening your home to a young person or a sibling group may make all the differnece in their lives. There are so many life lessons and family experinces to share when you choose to foster.  So many things like a hot meal, a warm bed and someone who genuinely cares about your well-being are things that many of us take for granted.  A foster parent can give youth the care and support they need, at a time when they need it most.  Eventually, when young people are reunited with their family or relative, they take with them the lessons and experiences their foster family has shared.  Foster parents make a difference in the lives of the families they help, the youth they foster and the communities they call home.

Fill Up an Empty Nest

After raising your own children and working hard to achieve your own life goals, you have a new, different, maybe even a better perspective on life and the footprint you want to leave behind in this world.  Choosing to foster a young perosn or a group of brothers and sisters is one way to fill up your empty nest and continue to make a difference.

Giving Back

Many people feel it is their responsibility to share their life experiences.  They want to create an opportunity to help others and to watch them learn and grow.  They want to play a part in strengthening their communities and preserving families who, for whatever reason, are in a time of need. Maybe you were fortunate enough to have a wonderful childhood of your own and now you are ready to give back.  If this sounds like you, contact us about exploring the idea of foster parenting!

We’re here for our foster parents, youth and families, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.  You can call us anytime at 1-877-NYAP-CAN (1.877.692.7226) if you need support, information, guidance or just to ask a question about caring for the youth you foster.

When you need us, we’re here for you.

We’re here to give our foster parents the skills, knowledge and support they need to provide children and youth with a safe, caring home.  We help our foster parents build and maintain a relationship, when and where appropriate, with the youth’s biological family with the ultimate goal of reunification, if possible.
